Tasting Notes: Dark Chocolate, Ripe Jackfruit, Smoked Honey, Bold Lingering Finish
Every name we choose carries a place inside it. Mekong Mist carries two.
The mist rises from the fog-draped highlands of Nam Ban, where our Fine Robusta grows slowly beneath a blanket of cool mountain air. The Mekong is the river the world pictures when it pictures Vietnam — a waterway that has carried rice, people, and stories across the country for centuries, binding the highlands to the delta and the past to the present. Together, these two names mark where this blend begins: in the land, and in the water that has always connected it.
The cup follows the same idea — two coffees in conversation, neither raising its voice above the other. The Fine Robusta lays down the foundation: depth, syrupy body, and dark chocolate richness. The Liberica answers from above with ripe tropical fruit, gentle sweetness, and a light floral aroma that drifts through the finish. Each one makes the other a little more complete.
The Robusta comes from Nam Ban at 1,080 MASL, where whole cherries undergo an anaerobic natural process with a distinctly Vietnamese signature: salt fermentation. Sealed away from oxygen, a measured addition of salt disciplines the ferment, drawing out dense sweetness and structure while taming the rougher edges the species is unfairly known for.
The Liberica is the rarer voice in this blend — a species most coffee drinkers have never tasted. Grown at 600 MASL in Hướng Phùng, in the red soils of Quảng Trị, these towering, broad-leafed trees are survivors: hardy, resilient, and vital to the biodiversity of Vietnamese coffee farms. After harvest, the whole cherries rest through an extended 180-hour anaerobic fermentation — a slow, patient transformation that unlocks the fruit hiding inside this wild bean: jackfruit, smoked honey, and a floral lift no other species can offer.
For us, Mekong Mist is a blend that feels unmistakably Vietnamese. It carries the richness so many of us grew up with — the strong, sweet cup dripping from a phin on a family table — while revealing another side of Vietnamese coffee that is bright, expressive, and full of character.
Best Ways to Brew
Whether you are an espresso purist or a traditionalist, this blend adapts to your ritual:
Phin Filter: The gold standard. Expect a syrupy, dark chocolate extraction that stands up perfectly to condensed milk — or lives boldly on its own.
Espresso: A crema monster. The Liberica floats a floral, fruity top note over a classic chocolate-base espresso.
Pour Over / Drip: For the adventurous brewer — this is where the wild fruit and spice notes of the Liberica come out to play.
Why Buy This Blend?
A Rare Species: Most coffee drinkers have never tasted Liberica. Be the one to share its story.
A Zero-Waste Mindset: We honor the hardiness of the Liberica tree — resilient, generous, and essential to the biodiversity of the farms we work with.
Honest Energy: The Robusta content delivers a powerful, focused caffeine lift without the bitterness of commodity-grade beans.
The Specialty Evolution: We are proud to showcase the diversity of Vietnam. From salt-fermented Fine Robusta to long-fermented Liberica, Mekong Mist invites you to taste how far our land can reach — where tradition meets modern specialty standards.
